Couchsurfing: a new way of travelling | See the world | Meet Locals

Have you ever heard of CouchSurfing? If yes, you can still find more information or interesting information here. If no, CouchSurfing does not imply going in the water with a sofa!

What is CouchSurfing?

CouchSurfing.org is a website but it works more as a community. Imagine you have friends everywhere in the world. Friends you can trust, friends you can count on, friends who have friends but also friends who are going to save you money.
You want to travel somewhere, but can't afford to pay an expensive hotel? On CouchSurfing you will find someone that hosts you whether it is on a sofa, on the floor or in a private room.
You are travelling somewhere but you are alone and don't know anyone around? On CouchSurfing you will find people with whom to go sight-seing, city touring, pub crawling, dance-floor rocking, coffee drinking, etc.
You are travelling somewhere where there is no couchsurfer? Well, you are unlucky, as you will see in the next section.

Who is on CouchSurfing?

Basically, more than 3,000,000 people from over 250 countries. More than 83,000 cities represented and 350 unique languages spoken by users. The average Couchsurfing user is 28 years old and there is a 53% probability that he is a male character. With 50% of the users from Europe, 25% from North America, the top city is Paris, France with 57,000 users ready to share their couch, bed or knowledge of the city with you. Those figures are from October 2011, for more up-to-date statistics, visit the CouchSurfing statistics page.

Why would I start CouchSurfing?

There are many reasons to Couchsurf. The first reason that people see is often money, you can't afford a hotel so you crash someones couch and it makes a trip cheaper, or sometimes just makes it possible. The second reason would be to make friends, meet people. People with different culture, different languages, but the same will to get in touch and learn from each other. After a few Couchsurfing experiences, what people usually give as a reason is to meet locals. Once you get used to going to places and hanging around with local people, you become allergic to touristic places and attractions. You also pay much less for food and drinks when you are away of the crowded touristic areas. In the end, all these reasons combine in one: CouchSurfing makes it possible for everyone to get in touch with different cultures and to learn a lot from life.

Here is a short video to help you understand how CouchSurfers see the project.

Is it safe to CouchSurf with unknown people?

Yes, it is safe. There might be some bad experience out there to balance the 6,000,000 positive user experiences, but most them could have been avoided with common sense and basic precautions. The first one would be, don't trust someone on CouchSurfing that you would not trust in real life.
Having said this, CouchSurfing has a very well done reference system e.g. you host me, everything goes fine, you will post a positive reference on my profile saying that according to your experience I am a trustworthy person. When someone has 20 or 30 positive references you can assume it is a person you can trust, and more than that you can get an idea of who he is by reading the references.

The vouches are also a great way to know if someone is trustworthy. Vouches are given by key users of the CouchSurfing world to attests that someone has understood the whole concept of CouchSurfing and is a positively incredible CouchSurfer. Once you get 3 vouches you are granted privilege to vouch for people.

The Couchsurfing Wiki gives recommendations on how to behave in ackward circumstances or if you are a pretty girl travelling by yourself. It also gives great informations about a lot of cities.

Conclusion

Yes, CouchSurfing can be a revolution in one's life. Yes, you may make some of the best friends you ever made, or even find love thanks to CouchSurfing. Yes, you will have to adapt yourself to different cultures and lifestyles, which you probably wouldn't have done by booking a room in a superb hotel with a swimming pool. Yes, this site is cool. And yes, we can be friends if you want, here is my profile.

My TOP 10 iPhone games ever | Best iPhone games | Paid games

The iPhone has revolutionized the world of smartphone gaming, and if you doubt it just take a ride on any public transportation system throughout the developed world.

Now that's a fact, but what if you own an iPhone or an iPod Touch and you are looking for great games that are not necessarily in the first pages of the AppStore, you might not want to browse through thousands of AppStore pages and try every iPhone game out there.

That is why I have done it for you, and I guarantee that if you try the games in this list you might discover some hidden treasures!

Note: the TOP 10 of iPhone games is not sorted in any order, so number 10 might be as good as number 1.

1. Spider: The Secret of Bryce Manor ($2.99)

Now, this is really a game you should try. You will impersonate a little spider and have to create spider webs to catch the insects of the house. The gameplay is just fantastic and you will love jumping around and tackling hornets!

2. Grand Theft Auto/GTA: Chinatown Wars ($9.99)

Ok, you might say 10$ is a little expensive for an iPhone game, but on another hand if you have ever played any GTA release or more generally anything from RockStar Games, you know that it is worth it.
The gameplay has been adapted to the iPhone's touchscreen and some new features have appeared (for example you might have to unscrew something by turning with your finger or break a window by repeatedly sliding your finder towards it).
Seriously... I love GTA!

3. Worms 2: Armaggedon ($4.99)

Same thing here, a lot of us have played Worms on Super Nintendo, PC or any other platform. Now the iPhone version of the game is great! It is great to play alone as it has a quite hard campaign mode which makes it life long and it is great to play with up to 3 more friends because... it is Worms.

4. Plants vs Zombies ($2.99)

Certainly one of the best value for price of this top 10. This iPhone game is long lasting, funny, well designed and has plenty of side games that are sometimes funnier than the main game. This is a must have game!

5. iSlash ($0.99)

iSlash is a simple iPhone game with a simple concept. In this game you will have to cut away the board into a smaller area containing all the moving stars. Although the first levels are quite easy, you quickly get to the ones that have more stars, with a wider variety of stars and bonuses that make the game interesting. The gameplay is completely iPhone friendly and can make you think of FruitNinja.

6. Dino Rush ($0.99)

In Dino Rush, you will impersonate a little prehistoric animal that has to eat some fruits to stay alive. In order to do so, all you can do is make it jump by touching the screen, and fly by touching it several times. The longest you survive, the higher your score will be. This game takes full advantage of the iPhone sensors and capabilities.

7. Rolando 2: Quest for the Golden Orchid ($0.99)

Like the first opus, Rolando 2 uses the accelerometer of the iPhone. That means you need to incline your iPhone on one side or another to make the characters move. The story is cute, the characters are funny and the gameplay is excellent, which makes it an excellent iPhone game.

8. Cave Bowling ($0.99)

Cave Bowling is a very funny iPhone game, where you define the angle and strength of your throw and try to hit all the bowling pins. The gameplay is interesting and the game as a whole is a nice piece of iPhone game development. The only drawback could be that that the game's shelf life is only of a few hours, but for 1$ it is still worth it.

9. Where's my Water? ($0.99)

Where's my water is an iPhone game where you have to bring water to Swampy - a friendly alligator that likes to take baths - by digging the walls to make a path for the water to flow. You also must try to gather the sponge ducks that are all around the levels. It is a very original iPhone game and definitely worth giving a try. The game also includes some bonus levels when you find some special objects in the levels. Very funny, definitely the type of game that made the success of iPhone as a game platform.

10. Tiny Wings ($0,99)

Tiny Wings is an original iPhone game where you have to help a little bird fly by touching the screen of your iPhone to make him gain speed downhill and release to make him fly. The game in itself is a little repetitive, but it is also very addictive.

So that's it for my TOP 10 paid iPhone games. I love all of them and all of them are addictive iPhone games. That means you are going to spend a lot of time on them!

Hope you enjoyed it, let me know what are your favorite iPhone games in comments.

My TOP 5 TV Shows | US & UK TV Shows

With the rise of Internet within the last decade has appeared streaming sites and the offer and demand for TV shows or short episodic programs with a duration between 20 minutes and 1 hour has exploded. The web is now full of streaming sites where you can find your favourite TV shows. Now you probably have yours, here is list of my favorites. All are english speaking, from the UK or from the US, and all have something that I consider funny or interesting. I hope you will like them.
The are presented in a random order, with country, channel and starting year.

1. How I Met Your Mother (US, CBS)

Ok, this a very classic TV show that has been going on CBS for years. Now, the season 7 is on and we will soon know who is the mother and how Ted (John Radnor) met her.
Actually, the reason why I keep watching this TV show is because of Barney Stinson, one of the main characters incarnated by Neil Patrick Harris. This guy is so funny! He has a lot of concepts to bang a lot of chicks and he always wears suits and give high fives! At the bottom of this page, you will find some funny videos of him, which will make you want to watch the TV show!

2. Californication (US, ShowTime)

Californication is a show broadcasted on ShowTime, and it is the story of Hank Moody (David Duchovny, yes Agent Fox Mulder from X-Files), a successful writer from NYC, who comes to California with his girlfriend and their daughter and finds himself in a situation where he cannot write a word anymore. He is what we could describe as a pussy magnet and all the most sexy girls of LA keep on raping him everywhere, which makes it very entertaining to watch.
What I like most about the show is the attitude of Hank towards life. He doesn't care much about anything and his lifestyle is closer to the one a teenager would dream of, but at the same time he loves his girlfriend Karen, (Natascha McElhone), and his daughter Becca (Madeleine Martin).

3. Dexter (US, ShowTime)

Dexter Morgan - aka. America's favourite serial killer - is also a Showtime TV Show. The story is about Dexter (Michael C. Hall), a forensic blood specialist from Miami's police (Miami Metro Homicide) who kills people because he needs it, and does it in a very professional way. Dexter only kills people who are harmful to others in society, so it could be seen as a dark angel, doing God's dirty job.
What I find fascinating about Dexter is the psychological aspect of his character. He is a good guy, everybody likes him, starting with his sister Deb (Jennifer Carpenter), and no one could imagine his secret life with his "dark passenger". Dexter would like to be normal, to love and to be loved. But he isn't...

4. How Not To Live Your Life (UK, BBC)

This, my friends, is a pure treasure that is almost unknown on this side of the ocean (the left side...). It started as a low budget show, as the main actor (Dan Clark) is also the guy who actually made up the show. It's the story of Don Danburry, a british citizen and a real dickhead who inherits a house from his passed away granma' . This guy has bad instinct and bad luck, but he is so funny!
What I particularly like about this TV show is the lists, e.g. if Don sees someone he wouldn't like to see the screen will show "5 things Don would like to do" and then you will see those 5 crazy situations. At the bottom of this page you will also find some of Don's greatest moments.

5. Misfits (UK, E4)

Misfits is a british TV broadcasted on E4. It's the story of a group of young offenders doing community service, who find themselves with superpowers after a storm. The learn about their powers throughout the episodes and the discover that they are not the only ones with powers in the city.
Hard to tell what makes this TV show a must see, but there is something addictive. Also, watch out for the very strong british accent!
